SIPI's HLC Comprehensive Evaluation for Reaffirmation of Accreditation and Solicitation of Public Comments
August 11, 2017

Colleagues:

The Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) is national Indian community college and land-grant institution located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The mission of the college is to prepare "culturally diverse Native American students as life-long learners through partnerships with tribes, employers and other organizations.  We establish a strong educational foundation for student success."

SIPI was granted initial accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission on February 27, 2014.  The Institute was placed in an initial ten-year cycle of accreditation, which requires a Year 4 comprehensive evaluation and site visit scheduled for November 13-14, 2017 for reaffirmation of accreditation.   The HLC team will review SIPI's ongoing ability to meet the Commission's Criteria for Accreditation.  The public is invited to provide comments to the HLC regarding SIPI's quality and performance.  Comments can be submitted via the HLC's website at www.hlcommission.org/comment or mailed.  All written, signed comments must be received by October 13, 2017.  Please refer to the attached statement for further information.

In closing I want to convey that faculty and staff have been hard at work to ensure that we fulfill our mission.  We want our students to succeed.  We view accreditation and the requisite periodic evaluations as an opportunity to continually strengthen our efforts.

Thank you,

Dr. Sherry Allison, President (Dine')
